The year that was

2008… a year of ups and downs, the year in which my soul hit an all time low…a year where I didn’t like myself for the most part…but coming to think it, so many other people did. So many people who’ve loved me, and made me bounce back every time deserve a thanks and something much much more than that… but I cannot find something as special as them to give them, so I will give them my love, because at the end, as I’ve realized through this year, that is the only thing that matters. (That's the last picture of me taken in 2008)

Amma and Appa

For intently listening to all the crap I narrate to them every evening. Also for bearing with my latecomings and shortcomings :)

Supri

Someone who’s changed my whole attitude towards life. Don’t get me wrong…she is no saint. Actually, she is a philosophical whiner most of the time, but Blabber is one of the best things that’s ever happened to me… She made my year a whole lot brighter by doing all these lil things that nobody has ever done for me…be it planning a birthday surprise or buying a pizza when I was sobbing like hell… Blabber has made a lot of my days special by her little gestures, and I dunno how I am gonna repay her for all that she’s done to me and been to me.

Bhuvana

I thank the Heavens for her everyday. She is the one person who’s stuck with me all through and this year, I can proudly, without any hesitation or doubt, say that our bond is like this FeviBond :P I was being really stupid, thinking of really stupid things like how her new relationship would bring a rift between us etc etc…but wow! we’ve just crossed all that…and we’ve proven that our fevibond is stronger than any rift. She’s always been around for me, in her very own weird way, and I just hope I’ve been there for her when she needed me the most too…

Ayush

I am really pissed off with him, you know? He never spoke to me, never met me and YET left an impact in me that will last beyond forever. Thanks for showing me what brotherly love is, yush!

Nandhini

This woman is impossible really! ALL problems, trust me, ALL problems will just go puff…when you narrate them to her. She is the person who taught me to see the lighter side of life, and someone who, by her words and deeds, showed me how beautiful and big life is. She is like the big sister I’ve always wanted to have, and I’m soooooo glad she is here in my life!!

Raj Anna

What to say about this man?! How do I express how much he means to me and what he means to me?! Bull shit… I’ll just say he should have never gone off sooo far!

Deepti (aka Bumboo)

How did it happen? When did it happen? Lol… I really don’t know. But Bumboo and Vedha are now officially twin souls! Bumboo is like the stars, you don’t always see them, but you know they are always there. Always.

My juniors of first BCA ( BD, Sudha, Sai, Upaa, Aish, Manasa and many others)

Thanks for liking me. Thanks for all the days you made me smile, and the smile you give me every time you see me in the corridors. It really means a lot.

Deepak

For proving that true friendships never die. My first ever friend of the opposite sex is still my best ever friend of the opposite sex

Sukanya

“When you think the world has turned its back on you, turn around. It’s often likely that you turned your back on it”. I turned back to see the world still turning its back on me. I saw Sukanya standing next to me doing the same, which made us even better bum chums. Thanks for sticking by me Suku.

Ram

Thanks for making me realize how the whole wide world thinks, Ram. You’ve made me who I am now, and if I’m even a little better than I used to be, it is because of you.

Dinesh. M

My brother and Agony Aunt. Suddenly, out of the blue, he became my friend and one of the very few in my trust list. Thanks for listening.

Kalyani, Asta, Archu, Suji, Chitra & a few others

Reasons why I’m still able to survive being in III BCA. Thanks for being the silver lining in a really dark cloud.

Karthi

shit.. i dont have a picture of him

Thanks for being a brother I can always rely upon. Supri would want to thank you for the midnight food and I would like to thank you for the same… not the food though, but for making me feel privileged and special.

Sandy

For filling in Alvia’s void and giving me company through the midnights and for getting me introduced to new guys J and also, for being a great listener and polambar(?!)

Alvia

Veyyilin arumai nizhalil theriyumam.

Enaku therinjudhu Alvi. I missed you so much!

Mrudhula

Nonsense… I love you!!!! If you could just get some time off to get me a birthday gift, I will love you even more ;) lol. Thanks for being my regular dose of Dairy milk. The doc says I might get diabetes any day!

Vasanth Anna

One more Anna into my kitty J Yay!!! Thanks for remembering me. Thanks for giving me a space into your life where only very little people have ventured so far.

Sarah and Alaina

They have been afar, for years and yet, very near. When I feel like drowning myself in tears, all I have to do is read their letters or look at their gifts and be reminded of the visit to the US of A still pending, and I am okay.

And, for all the wrong reasons:

  • Some teachers in college – bunch of toe rags really.
  • Some people in my class – losers, all of you!
  • Ching pang gang- you don’t know what you have lost, and when you do, you definitely can’t get it back
  • Sulking competitors- Opinions differ, you know? If you lose a competition, it means other people were better, and you sucked. It has got nothing to do with the judge’s RASANAI.
  • Some of my school 'friends' - You think I've changed? Go screw yourself.

Necessary losses

Before you read this post, you should google 'Necessary losses' by Judith Viorst. The post might make more sense then. Mr. Raj Mohan from Sri Lanka initiated this topic by the way. Bloody...I miss that Kulla Vijayakanth!

At every phase of your life, at every stage of life, there is someone around whom your life is centered. When you are 8 years old, it might be your friend who lent you their favorite crayon, when you are 13 years old, it might the person who always walked to school and back with you, even if you got late, when you are 16 years old, it might be your first special crush... it just goes on. But, that someone changes every so often. Someone around who your life revolved might just be nowhere one fine day(or do I say, one fateful, bad day?) Some just fall apart, some relationships just wither away, some hold no meaning anymore, some leave you for reasons unknown. When you incur such losses, you realise that you are your only friend. That's when you realise you have to back yourself, and pat yourself, come what may. That is when you should begin to believe that every loss is an opportunity for growth and change. That is when you have to appreciate yourself. That is when you have to believe in yourself.

Losses may come, losses may go, but I go on, till that extra mile before my sleep.

Home Alone

Being alone at home when parents are outta town isn't something new for me. What was new this time was Blabber being around. Generally, when parents are not in town, Bhuvana and/or Jaya come to sleep over, and I eat in Rajeswari Street Restaurants(read Bhuvana's house, Jaya's house or Raji mami's house). The sleep overs used to be SOOO much fun. We used to be up till the wee hours of the morning, discussing Anniyan punishments, lesbos in college, school time crushes...shit, we've been friends for way too long, so we are never short of topics. But given the recent turn of events, Bhuvana getting royally kicked(I own the complete responsibility) and Jaya...well, let's not talk about her now. Yeah...like I was saying, with the recent turn of events, they weren't able to make it, but even before that, Blabber had packed her bags, I was thinking Blabber would be an addition to the trio, but we ended up as the doubles :P

Day 1

1. Parents leave at 5 AM
2. Vedha wakes up pretty late, as usual, and realisation dawns.
3. Vedha makes உருளை கிழங்கு கறி with good உப்பு காரம், but half-boiled.
4. Vedha survives the afternoon with 1-day old rasam, half boiled potatoes and thayir.
5. Vedha and Blabber get Bhuvana's gift.
6. Blabber comes home at 8:30. She gets dropped by her dad, which is like wow!
7. We eat the left over curd rice with borrowed pickle from Bhuvana's place
8. Vedha gets hungry in the middle of the night. Blackie calls and Vedha says that. Blackie knocks at the door at 11:30 PM with a loaf of bread, chocolates, biscuits, VAAZA PAZHAM and SAMOSA. (We use it for 3 days...now that's another story)

Day 2

1. Vedha keeps an alarm at 5 and 6:30. 5 for Maargazhi velaku yethifying and 6:30 for paal vaangifying
2. Vedha didn't get paal
3. Blabber and Vedha eat bread toast.
4. Vedha goes off to get two size 28 jeans and OC saapadu
5. Blabber is very low cuz of Shiv's call
6. Blabber and Vedha sleep sleep sleep and then eat Blabber's super toast.
7. Blabber helps keep rice
8. Vedha and Blabber eat curd rice with inside aalo of samosa for thottufication

Day 3

1. Vedha is obsessed in not wishing someone
2. Vedha and Blabber go to college (Vedha wears her new purple tee) after eating Blabber's super toast.
3. Vedha spends vetti time in college and comes back. Eats rasam(borrowed from Bhuvana's house. Her dad's cooking!) and appalam(Jaya's house) with curd rice and pickle(Jaya's house) for lunch.
4. Vedha and Blabber are saved by Bhuvana and her dad's generousity and by Domino's opening an outlet (oh no! it is a 'SHOWROOM' according to the waiter) in Perambur.

End of story. Mum and dad came in the night. Vedha, Blabber and the other two are waiting for another home alone. :):)

PS: BAD BUMBOO DIDN'T COME!

Secret Santa

Christmas is this really fun time of the year, whatever religion you follow. It's the holidays, after all! And for us, Christmas is synonymous with 'Secret Santa' or Chrisma-Chrischild as it is popularly known in this part of the world :)

I have many fond memories of this game... especially when we used to play it in the street. Once, we born-and-raised-as-hindus lot played the game, and ended it on Ramzan. How cool is that!
I remember throwing lil gifts(which ranged from chocolates, junk stuff, erasers in different shapes, notes and what not!) into my child's window, practically, every other hour. It used to be this obsession back then. Saving up every penny(ok, rupee) to buy gifts for someone else, is something truly wonderful, coming to think of it, and we all learnt it so easily, courtesy Secret Santa. Bhuvana and I couldn't keep the secret between us, and we always knew each other's child. Same goes with Jaya too. Amidst all the chaos and suspicions, it was quite difficult to play the perfect Santa. But, that's where the fun of the game laid. I still have my final gifts that my Chris-mum got me years ago.

This year, the game was very special to me, thanks to my lowely Chrismum. I was really reluctant to play the game, from how things have been going for me this year, I really didn't think it was a good idea to play the game with the entire 3rd BCA. NOT a good idea at all. But do I ever get my way?! And for once, I am glad, I didn't get my way. Kali, Asta, BD, Archu, Suji, Rekha and a whole lot of other people came up to me and literally pushed me into picking up a name. ED(or E.Deepika) was my chrischild. I played my part okay, sent her lil gifts from time to time and all that. My Chrismum sent me really weird comments.. "Wear a saree and sing random songs in the podium"... I had to plead back to reduce it to a half-saree. And, I had to dance with that half saree later. Bah... but rules are rules and the game is to be played that way, so I did it all...for fun. What fun it was! Divya dancing, Gowthami slapping everyone and getting slapped, BD with the ஒற்றை ரோஜா...Sukanya singing Mallu songs to everyone in class, Kali asking sorry to every other soul, me shaking hands with everyone in Infosys saying "Hi this is Vedha"... it will all remain etched in memory...after all, I have very few good memories of classroom fun in college. 23rd December was the last day, and guess who my mommy was? Sujitha! Mummy good mummy. Mummy gave me chockie, sexy purple tee, ear-rings and pendant, mobile wallet and card with lowe letter. I'm scanning the card and putting it up along with this post... (click to enlarge I think) lowe letter is confidential. Thank you so much, Suji! for making me feel nice and special! I really owe you one!!!

'Observation Report' Duh.

Life is not fair. When I REALLY BADLY wanted to get Mass Media as my IDE(ok.. for the non-MOPiians, Inter Disciplnary Elective), all I get is Basics of Journalism. People who had given mass media as their 3rd or 4th option got it, and not me, AND it was my 1st f**king option! A lot of people consoled(?) me saying I shouldn't have given it as my first option, Duh- late realisation. Anyways, coming to the point, my journalism teacher(who is called 'RathiChitra' by the way) wanted us to write an observation report. Yeah, OBSERVATION REPORT. We'll have to observe some public place and write what we observe. I know I can write a story, but this is definitely better than 4/14(0/3 log 0/3) - 3/3log3/3 -4/14(2/2log2/2)- 0/2log0/2 bull shit calculation I had to do for Data Mining, so I thought I'll give it a sincere try.

Ok... credits : Thanks to Srashta for his *enlightening inputs* and no-thanks to Sandhya for her..whatever (there was a blond foreigner chick in spaghetti, I was sitting with two people on a semi-date(?!?!), an intelligent lady with pink top sitting with two dumbos, two aunties with fat but empty wallets(now how did she figure that out?!?!) ).

Out in the open

If there is a place where you can see adults making out, children playing cricket and 'maami's making fashion statements, it has to be the this. On a lovely sunday evening, perfect for catching up with old friends, and making new ones, I happened to go to the cloistered Thiruvanmiyur beach, just to do that. But only after I went there I realised that a visit to the beach gave way to all this and even more.

There were dogs all around, black and white ones, brown ones, ferocious ones, not-so ferocious ones- dogs of all kinds. Then, there were beggars of all kinds. People who demanded, begged, pestered and forced us to give money. A visit to the beach is never complete without seeing couples hidden in corners trying to look for some privacy in an absolutely public place. People in oblivion to everything that is happening around them, even if someone stares right at them(like what my friend did).

If I flunk my exams really badly and don't find a job, I want to be an ice-cream seller in the beach. Selling ice-creams at double the cost and actually having people to buy them is something that you can't find everywhere. The beach is a good place not only to sell your products, but to market your products too. There were lots of commandos in black shirts('flavours of India' with a pizza corner logo) distributing pizza=discount pamphelts to everyone in the beach(including the secluded couples). They didn't forget to place pamphlets in the car wipers too.

There is a saying which goes like this- "Sometimes I wish I remained a kid, because broken hearts hurt more than broken knees". When I saw two boys(twins!) playing with a little tennis ball(aka பந்து), despite the heaps of sand, having the time of their lives, this quote was the first thing that came to mind. If I ever wore floaters to college with a salwar/saree, it would be a great fashion faux pas. But people walking in the beach are exceptions. You can see maamis with salwar and sneakers, with a headphone swaying to some unheard music and people in cars doing whatever.

If you are wondering, "Are there any people who go into the waters?!", don't even get me started on that. Men showing their 'family' packs with just a boxer on, is NOT something that we girls would like to see. So, all you Michael Phelps reincarnates out there, it's time you gave up. There are quite a few expats who have fun at the beach though. I happened to see a family having relaxed fun there. Now that's something we like to see!

I could've sat there the whole day just looking at the waves and people-watching. But when I told my friend she was really lucky to be living close to the beach, she just said, "I come in here maybe once in 6 months". Also, living in Perambur keeps me 'insulated from Tsunamis'. The grass is greener on the other side.

This and that

I deleted the other post cuz of popular demand (not). Half the people who read this blog can't read Tamil, and the one person who could, gives me weird comments.(unaku iruku da!) and anyway, I'm not good at poetry. So I took it off. Yay! I'm the boss! he he.

And... the reason why I'm writing this entry is, to announce to the world, that Sandhya said, "Don't write anything about today in your blog" :P

La la la la la

Talk about best laid plans!

Everything just goes புஸ்ஸ்.....and it gets REALLY annoying.

Talk about being lonely!

How can someone be lonely when there around 50 people around you? Oh well...You cannot be lonely if you like the person you're alone with.” -Wayne Dyer. Is that the case here? SO NOT.

Well... whatever

Well... when all of us were thinking recession(or THE GREAT DEPRESSION) was the worst thing that could've happened, we get Nisha. And the bomb blasts.

People who can still smile and say "Wow! We've got four days holidays because of the hurricane" can please go and bang their head on the great wall of China. You wouldn't enjoy the holiday so much if you were to float in a thermocole boat day and night, would you? (Okay...I agree. We'll rejoice we aren't one of them. But still!)

Mumbai blasts. What the HELL is wrong with these people?!?!?!?! Why kill innocent lives?? I saw a guy on the TV, showing his hand, where fingers should've been, only blood could be seen. I still can't get that out of my head. I'm sure its gonna haunt me for days. What is the WHOLE POINT of killing people??????????????

All this makes me think, that we are, indeed, getting nearer to the Doomsday. www.december212012.com is the freakiest website ever.

Uncle Chips- The Auntie's processing weapon!

I don't know what the connection is, between us and Anjana Iyer. But she pops up in every other Ad zap these days, as the judge(that is the saddest part!). This time, she had to team up with Aruna GaneshRam, the famed ex-president of MOP, and result= all the participants were screwed.

Sample of topics?

1. HP Laptop- Petrol Powered Processing P3

2. Jet Air - Getting out made faster

3. The Times of India on Fastrack

... and we got... you guessed right! Uncle Chips- The Auntie's processing weapon!

To tell you the truth, we were a little nervous. With these 'judges' screwing every other team on stage, we didn't know what we would be subjected to.

Thankfully, Supri managed the situation with some help from Deepti, and some 'er... well... actually' from me :P

And we came FIRST!!!!

Sindhu Ma'am said, "Engayaavadhu Ad zap nu sonna podhume... odane varinju kattitu poiduveengale". Sathiyamaana unmai!!

வாரணம் ஆயிரம் - The DADDY Movie!

நாங்க 'வானரம் ஆயிரம்' னு ஒரு அருமையான படம் எடுக்க inspiration !!! (with Supri as heroine!)

Well, that was a joke obviously, one among the 100 lousy jokes we cracked during the course of the movie. We somehow got the tickets, FINALLY(All thanks to Mubby...oops, Deepti, and her uncle working in Sathyam Cinemas :P).

I'm probably not the right person to review a movie, but come on, its MY blog, and its a country of free speech!

Vaaranam Aayiram is a tribute from Gautam 'Vasudev' Menon to his dad. But whether it has reached all the dads and sons from all over, is still a question. I'm guessing guys can understand the movie better, because it is about a father-son relationship (I guess we girls should just wait for Abhiyum Naanum).

I will not give a spoiler review like TOI, but let me just tell you, you have to watch this movie. For Surya. He is BLOODY brilliant, and I'm NOT talking about his six pack!

This movie is a good come back for Simran, as a talented actress (at least, better than Seval), and some of her acting says 'I'm back! with a bang.' But we should agree that she can never be a Kajol. She's put on weight, and she looks old. Especially with ரெட்டை ஜடை.. whew...she looks bad. (Reminds me of Reema Sen in Vallavan)

Sameera Reddy looks oomph! as the 'swept over by the feet' girl, Meghna. Goutam once again proves his brilliance in choosing his heroines here. Divya(a.k.a Kuthu Ramya) is sparingly used, but yeah... the lesser the better.

All in all, its a DADDY movie. 'I am Major K. Surya Daddy' HA HA HA!
'He's smiling'
DADDY
'It's okay, you'll be alright'
DADDY
'kiddo' 'sunno'
'DADDEEEEE'

You see, the movie is about a very well educated 'Kurkure' family! The 'DADDY' factor makes the movie comical really. What was Goutam Menon thinking?!?!

The music is AWESOME. But you never know, it is Harris Jayaraj. So, in a few months' time, you might find videos in YouTube giving the original versions from where these songs might've been copied!

Rating: **** (All for Surya!)

Movie: Must-watch, definitely.

Plus: Surya (Dad & Son), Simran, Music, Lyrics

Minus: Daddy :P (definitely can't think beyond that!)

And, I love the message that is conveyed in the movie- "Whatever happens, life has to go on". How very true!

Inji

My dad sits at home reading a magazine in the evening, when he suddenly feels a shadow moving around. He looks below and sees a fur ball sitting... a tiny tiny ginger cat, very weak but still way too cute. I then called Bhuvana, and then the whole crowd turned up... Bhuvana managed to even cuddle it, in her lap! We named it Inji(Ginger), according to its looks. Inji climbed my dad's veshti like a mountain, and got into his lap comfortably. We all fell in love with the little kittie.

Next day, Inji got sick, both its hindlegs were sort of paralysed, we took it to the vet, got an injection put, and got some vitamin tablets written from the vet. Inji drank milk from an ink filler, diluted tablet after that, and then slept peacefully. It even tried to jump onto Bhuvana's lap, moving just the two legs, and dragging the hinds.

In the evening, I had to go out. Bhuvana fed it with milk in the evening. At around 7:30, mum and dad thought it could do with more milk. By then, one of Inji's front legs got paralysed too. Inji drank milk from the ink filler, hiccuped for a few times.. hic hic..and then its head swayed to one side. Inji is in heaven now. Bhuvana didn't have dinner that night. I'm glad I wasn't home to see that sight. This is exactly why I'm scared of having pets.
