Blackle

I saw an article today morning in Yahoo! about companies wanting to hire more "Green Techies". My colleague in the next cabin and I were simultaneously googling "Green Techies" in our respective machines for more information(because Yahoo! News is blocked in office. Don't even get me started on that!). But again, simply put, green techies are people who know how to save energy. "anyone doing innovative things with computers and electronics to reduce energy use, reuse, and recycle."

And coincidentally, today Dinesh had commented today that I should change my blog's background colour. My dear anna/thambi...there is a reason why the background is black - energy saving!
And at this juncture... :-) *ta ra ta raaan* introducing to you(ok...if you already know it, feel free to wander away) BLACKLE- the energy saving search engine. For more information, go HERE beecaaz eet weeell bee plaigiarism if I cut and paste that here :P

நாங்களும் வரைவோம்-ல!

Lol. When I was in 5th standard or something, I used to fill even ruled notebooks with my drawings and water color paintings. (I think I still have them somewhere). Then somewhere down the lane, I lost touch... But yeah, now me being vetti, and Bumboo, Blab and Nithi being the full the inspirations, I sat down to sketch Nandy(ayyo paavam).

Kadasi varaikum, that smile couldn't be duplicated (eppadi ellam samaalika vendiyadhaa iruku?!) Still have to do finishing touches(?!) but yea.. you can see what it looks like.

Idhu Nandhini illa.. Nandhini maadiri :P

Jhankar, Project and Madness

Not fair. Not fair really. Two weeks of holiday is supposed to make life more relaxed. So NOT. After the blessing-in-disguise two week break, we go back to college, back to CHAOS. Teachers with full vigour resume classes, Jhankar practice in full swing, Mini Project manager calls and asks how the project is progressing(progress? wat progress?) and people continue to get on my nerves. I just have only one thing to say - என்ன கொடுமை சரவணன் இது?!?!

10 lessons from Jhankar

1. Chaos is the theme every year

2. A lot of people don't know how to spell punctuality

3. Whatever you do, somebody else is waiting to do better

4. Being a 'strict officer' is inevitable

5. If you are a dancer, you get more money :P

6. Eating in somebody else's house after practice is good for health

7. In-construction houses don't make good practice places for the whole day. Seriously.

8. Quite a few girls in my class make good collectors, but the others in the department are even better in evading.

9. Bonds are made and bonds are cracked

10. Some people can do some work best. Some can dance, some can sing, some can organize, some can support, some can do nothing. Only when this gets mixed up, there comes confusion.

I watched a movie first day-first show on a festival day !!

One of my chinna chinna aasais was to watch a movie first day first show on a festival day! And for a change, this wish of mine got fulfilled. Isn't that cool? Eeeeeeeee. I have already watched Mozhi first day first show(and I'm proud of it! I stood in the queue and got tickets!!)
Supri's friend wanted to book tickets for the entire family, online. But being first day first show and all that, Inox allowed only two tickets to be booked at a time. And, by the time, the next set of two tickets could be booked, puff...housefull. And those two tickets ended up in our hands... :) We did pay for it, but let me tell you, this should've been one of the easiest ways to procure two first day tickets... stand outside Eatalica, pay money, get the tickets :) Although the comments about who I should be taking to the movie, could've been avoided.

Ok... to break the 'suspense' we watched Padikadhavan. I got thoroughly impressed by the "paatha pidikaadhu paaka paaka dhaan pidikum" dialogue. But, ahem... never judge a movie by its trailer :P lol. But yeah, it was a good movie... as in, basic time pass stuff that you can watch once as a worthy enough gamble. Unlike a lot of people, I actually happen to like Dhanush as an actor. I know I couldn't sleep properly for two days after watching Kadhal Konden. But be warned, you will be thorougly disappointed if you are looking for a story in Padikadhavan. Tamannah is good in the movie, but she's again a running-around-tree heroine. There are a lot of villains in the movie, lots of Reddy garus, Raami Reddy, Samara Simha Reddy... blah blah blee blee. Sometimes, it is so confusing as to which rowdy is doing what, and for what he is doing it. The comedy in the movie is the saving grace. Dhanush's timing is awesome as ever, and you have a lot of other people like Vivek and Mayilsamy to tickle your funny bone. So yeah...there you go. I happened to watch a movie first day first show, and I happened to like it. Clap clap clap!

NAAC(u) MO(O)KKA

Appa!! Finally they arrived, and when? On THE birthday. The NAAC visit did dampen our celebrations to an extent, but Supri and I successfully chased a stray in the night singing to the sky. We had a birthday drink (Kashayam) and kept awake talking about the ISRO guy(phrase borrowed from Bumboo). I dunno when we slept, but immediately(or so it felt like) we had to get up, and go to college, because NAAC committee was coming!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kolam in front of the canteen, clean department room, sparkling fountain, pots of flora everywhere... MOP was sooo different. Someone compared the whole mopping up to "பாமா விஜயம்." So true so true.

NAAC committee came and went. Our project couldn't get displayed ANYWHERE thanks to the misunderstandings and mishaps that defines MOP. This obviously made us triplets get PISSED. pissed beyond words. And, a lot of things had pissed us already(like piss off council, hunger pang, birthday blues etc etc) so this got us more pissed. Which made us diss people and diss each other. Which was disastrous. But we are THE TRIPLETS! and nothing dampens us!!! So we went to celebrate birthday :-) La la la la la la............

Then blabber came home. We went to temple, ate jal mori and had a good time star-gazing.
Happy Birthday yush!

Happys endings!

'Observation Report' Duh.

Life is not fair. When I REALLY BADLY wanted to get Mass Media as my IDE(ok.. for the non-MOPiians, Inter Disciplnary Elective), all I get is Basics of Journalism. People who had given mass media as their 3rd or 4th option got it, and not me, AND it was my 1st f**king option! A lot of people consoled(?) me saying I shouldn't have given it as my first option, Duh- late realisation. Anyways, coming to the point, my journalism teacher(who is called 'RathiChitra' by the way) wanted us to write an observation report. Yeah, OBSERVATION REPORT. We'll have to observe some public place and write what we observe. I know I can write a story, but this is definitely better than 4/14(0/3 log 0/3) - 3/3log3/3 -4/14(2/2log2/2)- 0/2log0/2 bull shit calculation I had to do for Data Mining, so I thought I'll give it a sincere try.

Ok... credits : Thanks to Srashta for his *enlightening inputs* and no-thanks to Sandhya for her..whatever (there was a blond foreigner chick in spaghetti, I was sitting with two people on a semi-date(?!?!), an intelligent lady with pink top sitting with two dumbos, two aunties with fat but empty wallets(now how did she figure that out?!?!) ).

Out in the open

If there is a place where you can see adults making out, children playing cricket and 'maami's making fashion statements, it has to be the this. On a lovely sunday evening, perfect for catching up with old friends, and making new ones, I happened to go to the cloistered Thiruvanmiyur beach, just to do that. But only after I went there I realised that a visit to the beach gave way to all this and even more.

There were dogs all around, black and white ones, brown ones, ferocious ones, not-so ferocious ones- dogs of all kinds. Then, there were beggars of all kinds. People who demanded, begged, pestered and forced us to give money. A visit to the beach is never complete without seeing couples hidden in corners trying to look for some privacy in an absolutely public place. People in oblivion to everything that is happening around them, even if someone stares right at them(like what my friend did).

If I flunk my exams really badly and don't find a job, I want to be an ice-cream seller in the beach. Selling ice-creams at double the cost and actually having people to buy them is something that you can't find everywhere. The beach is a good place not only to sell your products, but to market your products too. There were lots of commandos in black shirts('flavours of India' with a pizza corner logo) distributing pizza=discount pamphelts to everyone in the beach(including the secluded couples). They didn't forget to place pamphlets in the car wipers too.

There is a saying which goes like this- "Sometimes I wish I remained a kid, because broken hearts hurt more than broken knees". When I saw two boys(twins!) playing with a little tennis ball(aka பந்து), despite the heaps of sand, having the time of their lives, this quote was the first thing that came to mind. If I ever wore floaters to college with a salwar/saree, it would be a great fashion faux pas. But people walking in the beach are exceptions. You can see maamis with salwar and sneakers, with a headphone swaying to some unheard music and people in cars doing whatever.

If you are wondering, "Are there any people who go into the waters?!", don't even get me started on that. Men showing their 'family' packs with just a boxer on, is NOT something that we girls would like to see. So, all you Michael Phelps reincarnates out there, it's time you gave up. There are quite a few expats who have fun at the beach though. I happened to see a family having relaxed fun there. Now that's something we like to see!

I could've sat there the whole day just looking at the waves and people-watching. But when I told my friend she was really lucky to be living close to the beach, she just said, "I come in here maybe once in 6 months". Also, living in Perambur keeps me 'insulated from Tsunamis'. The grass is greener on the other side.

Uncle Chips- The Auntie's processing weapon!

I don't know what the connection is, between us and Anjana Iyer. But she pops up in every other Ad zap these days, as the judge(that is the saddest part!). This time, she had to team up with Aruna GaneshRam, the famed ex-president of MOP, and result= all the participants were screwed.

Sample of topics?

1. HP Laptop- Petrol Powered Processing P3

2. Jet Air - Getting out made faster

3. The Times of India on Fastrack

... and we got... you guessed right! Uncle Chips- The Auntie's processing weapon!

To tell you the truth, we were a little nervous. With these 'judges' screwing every other team on stage, we didn't know what we would be subjected to.

Thankfully, Supri managed the situation with some help from Deepti, and some 'er... well... actually' from me :P

And we came FIRST!!!!

Sindhu Ma'am said, "Engayaavadhu Ad zap nu sonna podhume... odane varinju kattitu poiduveengale". Sathiyamaana unmai!!

Radiance- Spreading light!

Damn... Supri beat me to this by 34 minutes!! I was just going to write this, and I see her post smirking at me!

One Sunday evening, PROPERLY spent, seriously! My sundays are usually filled with absolute vettiness, with me having nothing to do except, say, watch a movie, or catch up on some sleep. But this sunday, well, it was different.

Two days ago, in the marshy lanes of Madhavaram (well, if you don't know where Madhavaram is, go hang yourself or drop in to Perambur, I'll take you there!), when I was going to visit my junior Divya's house, I get a call.

Hi.. I'm Gayathri, Sukanya's van mate, u remember me?

oh well.. hi gayathri, yea, of course i remember u.. tell me

are u free on sunday? we have a program, and i want u to... wait...

*lots of background noise*

hi vedha.. this is sumana... mrudhula's friend... there's a show on sunday that i want u to host..

(trying to figure out who sumana is...and completely confused) ok.. i guess i can do it. wat show? can u give me details?

*lots of background noise again*

hi... im jayanth

oh.. hi jayanth

see.. there is this album that we're releasing.. well, hey can u come over to my place, so i can tell u details?
well.. im in a place called madhavaram, and i'm pretty sure you don't even know where it is..

well, no i dont..

yea, it is chennai outskirts, and im out here.. so i cant come now.. maybe you could e-mail me the stuff?

ya, ok, sure.. take down my no...u can probably send ur e-mail id in there..

And, the rest, as they say, is history. Jayanth got stuck in traffic the whole day, and the MS Phone idea he had, didn't work, cuz I slept off really early that day, and so the next day, I, dragging Supri(as usual!) went upto his place(Thank Heavens to Kowshik! who overwhelmed us with his hospitality.. ), ate பாதுஷா, கை முறுக்கு and தேன்குழல்(thanks to Jayanth's mom, who probably understood our hunger pang!), and listened to their amazing tracks! (More from the composer here: http://www.acidplanet.com/artist.asp?songs=630013&T=7049 )

Radiance(I love the name!) is a band of 10 or 12 people(Please confirm with Jayanth! :) who have come together to create a music album for the orphanage Anbu Karangal (http://www.anbukarangal.org/). The proceeds from the sale of the album, goes to the orphanage. Amazing, don't ya think?

The band consists of a few ex-MOPians, and men from Sai Ram engg, among other people. But, it was not just a band of 12 people. SOO many friends lent a helping hand and the parents gave in their full support, their colleges sponsored the event, people like Chinmayi and M.K. Balaji sang for the album... It was such a collective effort, and I'm soo proud I could at least be a teeny weeny part of it. And, Supri played a big part in me being a part of it by being my official chauffeur(ok, it was only her Scooty Pep.. but yea..).

In the process, I finally found out who Sumana is (Eureka!), got to see Gayathri in a saree, got bored to death by Mr. Chairman of Sai Ram Engg(See: Annexure I), and got scolded from a guy("போடி நாயே!") who I've only known for a day! I made quite a few new friends, and got to know more about old college acquaintances, and MOST important, I could be myself after a long time!, so all in all, a day well spent!!!! (only regret being lots of guys calling me, அக்கா! என்ன கொடுமை சார் இது! )

ANNEXURE I:

Questions posed by Mr. Chairman

(Through the ENTIRE conversation, Mr. EEE HOD kept nodding his head!)

1. What are the FM stations in Chennai, apart from AIR?

2. Do you think it is commerically viable for us to start a FM station? We want to spread education

*Vedha desparately searches for someone to rescue her at this point, but in vain!*ஆனா, அவங்களுக்கு, தனி கொடி இருக்கு... but நாம 61/2 கோடி பேர், நமக்கு ஏன் கோடி இல்ல? தலைவர் பிரபாகரன்(Note: It is the LTTE leader) கு மறைமுகமா ஒரு letter போடணும்! இந்த gulf countries பேரு எல்லாம், எனக்கு தேடி தரியா மா? ஜெயந்த் கிட்ட கொடுத்து அனுப்பு!

Ad Zap in MGR Janaki

Those people at MGR Janaki College should be..... duh, dunno what to say... but yeah, மெரீனா ல ஒரு சிலை வெக்கணும்... for thinking of all such WEIRD topics.

Want sample??

1. Tripping shoe
2. Staining toothpaste
3. 1 foot long flash eye lashes
4. HOT ice-cream
5. Cell phone without SMS(can you even believe it?!?!)

etc etc...

and of all topics, we get 'INTELLIGENT BATHROOMS!!' ayyo ayyo. We ended up getting second which was like awesome, amongst the whole lot of men crowd booing and passing comments all over the place... huh.

And, I loved what Anjana Iyer(Yeah! She was the judge!) said. She told people the criteria for judging and stuff...
1. Originality
2. Kamal Haasan, Rajnikanth எல்லாரையும் விட்டுடுங்க... தப்பு தப்பா mimicry பன்னி அவங்கள அசிங்க படுத்தாதீங்க..
3. Don't do the same concept over and over and over and over again.
4. Don't COPY...
etc etc...

We(Supri and I mostly...) were really happy listening to what she said... music to our ears! Hope people heed to her advice!!
