All American Girl- Ready or Not

This is one book I've been wanting to read for a long time. But...well...what a disappointment! The entire book revolves around one thing- Doing It. She thinks her boyfriend wants to Do It and she doesn't know whether she wants to, but ok...here is a spoiler(or is it?!), at the end, they Do It. End of story. All American Girl could've done without this sequel. Cabot is running out of ideas...

Wednesday- Thrusting thoughts

You feel strongly about something. You want to express it all out. But if you express it openly, you'll probably be jailed. So what do you do? Insert all your peelings subtly inside the serial that you are directing, and amidst the usual heroine-villain-revenge-anger-sogam scenes, create a character to exhibit all your peelings. BAD IDEA!

I understand it is difficult when you're feeling really sorry for your brotherhood in the neighbourhood and you are anxious that you are not able to do something about it. But, do you really think passing on the message in a primetime soap that has been running on for over SIX frigging years is going to actually help spreading the message? Isn't that degrading your belief? Is this an issue someone would want to discuss during a SOAP?!?! Are you trying to turn the issue into something that nobody would take seriously?! Or is this the way of showing your solidarity?!

Wednesday- Twilight

I was going to review Twilight...and tell you all how unfairly it is over-hyped, but Bhuvana says maybe I should read the entire series before giving out opinions. So if anybody has New moon and the third book in the series(forgot the name :P), please send it through. I have the 4th one :-)

Wednesday- Uncyclopedia!

"Uncyclopedia- the 'content' free encyclopedia anyone can edit."

Does it sound insanely familiar, but you're thinking there's something wrong?

Yup...I did write that right(write-right... wah wah wah)

Uncyclopedia is a parody of Wikipedia, and it's got complete nonsense and like it says, it is "content" free, but it will definitely make a lot of sense for people who make sense out of non-sense. Makes sense?

Anyway, in my office(and in most offices), almost all entertainment sites are blocked. So, what do you do when you are completely bugged? Go to www.uncyclopedia.org!

Iyers have a mad frigging obsession for Thayir Sadam (aka Curd Rice aka Yogurt mixed with rice boiled the previous night). Although the men of the newer generation have adopted this slick (and most times slimy) dish as a hang-over repellant, an Iyer meal typically ends with this delicacy.

A note on naming:- The algorithm for naming a son or daughter goes like this - combine 4 Gods name and follow it up with Iyer. Some samples are Balasubramanian Parthasarathy Iyer, Venkatakrishna Ramachandran Iyer.

The "Duckworth-Lewis" system

An early 19th century cricket scientist invented this controversial rule. When there is a hurricane within a radius of 140 000 kilometers from a game of cricket any player of any team may call upon the Duckworth-Lewis system to stop all ongoing play and ensue in chasing a duck, worth the amount of exactly one Lewis. The first team to catch the duck gets 1 Lewis to do with as they please. Some say the Lewis can hit 3 sixes with one sweep of the bat, some say he eats ball-boxes for breakfast and he reportedly calls players like Shane Warne and Brett Lee insufferable oafs, without as much as a twitch in his eye. The only thing we know is that he's called Lewis (and he was a fabled warrior of Medieval fame).

Wednesday- All American Girl

If you are looking for one time-pass in-one-go read, you have to read this book by Meg Cabot! Reading the first chapters, I thought the heroine, Samantha Madison, sounded weird... wearing only black because "she is mourning for her generation", selling celebrity drawings and in love with her sister's boyfriend (or at least that's what she thinks).
Maybe she is weird, but that is what makes her fun. She saves the President from assassination (NOT to be a national hero, mind you!), and suddenly she becomes a celebrity (though she knows she is not!). Everywhere she goes, she is surrounded by reporters (Coke or Pepsi, Samantha? and such nuisance, lol!) and to make things better(?), the President's son might just be in love with her.
This book is really good, and you'll have quite a few laughs - totally fun to read. I would highly recommend it.

Wednesday - Faery Rebels: Spell Hunter

I still read young adult novels and even novels that are ranged 'Ages 12 and up' :-) Fantasy always fascinates me and such stories take you out of the world. Don't we all want to escape the realities of life and go into a dream/fantasy world? One such fantasy story I read recently (Courtesy: TeenFX) is Faery Rebels- Spell Hunter, a debut by R.J.Anderson.

This is the best fairy story I've ever read. Anderson makes fairies explicitly alive, and these days, every other big tree I see, I wish to see if there are fairies living in there.

Bryony, a.k.a. 'Knife', is a fairy. Fairies have lost their magic and they are know confined to the great Oak, not wanting to have contact with the outside world and especially the dreaded humans. But when Knife goes through the library's restricted section, she is shocked and surprised to find out that fairies have always been closely associated with humans and half of human knowledge comes from them.

Knife is determined to learn more and get the fairies back their magic. She becomes friends with a human without anybody's knowledge. What happens next forms the rest of the story. The usual elements of fantasies- magic, enemies and of course romance are sprinkled in abundance :-P

If you are looking for a happy fantasy that is a light read(or if you are looking for a book to gift your little sister or niece), you should grab this one.
