BallyFabs- The Jute Shop!

The Sunday before the last was extremely eventful. Because it was Triplet Meet day! We triplets had great fun, and yeah...when I mentioned there is this shop where you get cool jute bags for a nice price, Bumboo was mentioning this other jute bag shop with Bengali owners where you get a handsome discount if you knew Bengali. That made me really happy, because we had a ready made Bangla woman(almost) in Blabby. But Bumboo didn't know where that shop was, just knew it was called baali something, so we decided to go to the shop that I mentioned- The Jute shop! But... both the shops were the same.. ta da ta da taaan... "BallyFabs- the Jute Shop". You can find this shop in Spencer Plaza...somewhere in the 1st floor...near Westside...you'll find this shop name boards... next to that is a pathway, go straight and you'll hit there(Right, twins?). You get great deals on bags, and if you know Bengali, you have this extra added advantage. I got two bags, one for 60 bucks and one for 50 bucks, and I swear you won't believe I paid only that much for those bags when you see it!

Tuesday- Nandy's cooking

Aah... This is something I definitely have to recommend. The potato curry Ms. Ezhil Nandhini makes is the best!! (And I've eaten my mum's, Bhuvana's mum's and so many professional cook mamis cooking!!) You have to eat it to believe it. Trust me!!


Also, I think, இவ்வளவு அழகா யாரும் சமையல் பண்ண முடியாது... The way she sings and cooks(almost half-bachelor style), and makes sure she finds company to sit with her in the moda while cooking(நான் என்ன உங்க வேலைக்காரியா?), and the final product itself... wah! eet ees an experience. You have to try it some day!!!

Tuesday - Come to Jhankar!

This weekend is Jhankar (MOP Vaishnav Culturals) and I definitely want to see a lot of familiar faces!!!!

Kudos to Bumboo for patiently sitting out and working her ass of to come up with a cool list. I hope our department does justice to it!! I'll be there to cheer! And so will you! (You better be!)

Tuesday - Window seat Bus ride

I think everybody should at least experience this once. A busy day... lot of traffic... light drizzle outside...people running for cover... people braving the rains... FM music sounding sour because the rain drops sound better... an open window through which some rain drops dare to touch your elbow resting on the window railings... :-) Feel it to believe it.

Tuesday - MOP Canteen

Sambhar saadham, Man'joo'rians, juices, chilly paratha, cup noodles... WAAAAAAHHHHHHH... I miss MOP canteen!!!! Today we had noodles in office, I got reminded of the canteen. The other day we had sambhar saadham..WAAAAHHH...I missed the MOP Sambhar saadham. Any guest who comes into MOP will have this one good thing to say about the college(apart from other things like, "the girls are rude", "the campus is so small") - good food.

(Testimonials that I know of: All Radio One staff who ate here during College Champions auditions, parents of students coming for admissions etc)

The food is awwwchuum(spelling courtesy: Bumboo). I HIGHLY recommend it!

Tuesday - ராஜா அண்ணா கடை

Any young girl who lives in Perambur would've definitely been to this shop at least once. Sandwiched between Chandra book stores and a Meat shop right now, Raja stores used to be sandwiched between Chandra stores and an oil shop years ago(Right opposite to its present location. They still use the old shop also). Started as one extremely kutti பொட்டி கடை(mind you, it is still kutti) , ராஜா அண்ணா கடை became very popular in a very short period of time for its cheap and best junk jewelry. Everytime my friends and I went that side, we couldn't resist taking a peek into that shop(It was always crowded) and once we took that peek, we couldn't resist buying something. It was always those 5 rupee ear-rings or bands or clips. At one stage, whenever anybody asked me about my accessory, my answer always was "அஞ்சு ரூபா...ராஜா அண்ணா கடைல வாங்கினது" and thus spread the fame of that store. When I got a ear-ring, Jaya went in to get the same ear-ring. Then Bhuvana did. Then her sisters did. Their friends did. Our schoolmates did. Or we used to buy them for our schoolmates. And so the story goes...
After joining MOP, whenever the girls sold accessories as part of their curriculum, or during the bazaar, I used to take a glance and go, "ராஜா அண்ணா கடைல இதுல பாதி விலைக்கு கிடைக்கும்...தேவையே இல்ல". And when the girls dropped in one day, they realized it was true.

What makes the store click?

• The way they talk. Do you have this? No, but we have this. This is the best.
• I go in. Vedha...how are you?
• அண்ணா, 15 rupees. idhu too much. சரி மா...உனக்காக10ருபாய்க்குதரேன் எடுத்துக்கோ.
• And the variety and price of course

My sister who comes in from Bangalore does her shopping everytime in here. Perambur's answer to Pondy Bazaar/Parrys/Sowcarpet roadside stores - Raja Stores :-D

You can find this place in Paddy Field Road, just after the turning to Selva Vinayagar Koil Street, and like I said, diagonally opposite to the all-famous-lazy-shopkeepers-owned Chandra stores.
